The ASCII, Latin-1 or UTF-8 encodings will never go out of style, because they are not formats, they are simple encodings, and the information stored in these text files will be usable and parseable by computers practically forever. Moreover, the software that can read and convert the very few formatting that is used in the input files is in the open source domain, and has few dependencies, and therefore will work as long as the language it is written in (Python) will be alive. I see tremendous value in this. Access to the information I produce is not ephemeral anymore."
